Tisca family
The Tisca family is hard working and follows a long tradition in carpentry. They are known as the carpenters of the village since a very long time. This tradition was passed on from father to son keeping the same old studio, the machines and the models.
Preservation of local cultural heritage
Would you like to try your hand at milking cows, making cheese or feeding farm animals? Staying at the Bradul Chalet you can have the opportunity to join the Tisca Family in their daily activities, keeping the old traditions alive! During summer time, you can take part in drying the hay for the animals, feeding the hens and picking the eggs from the hens coop. Or even engage in crocheting with the local women in the village. During winter, you can assist Mrs. Tisca in milking the cows, preparing the ´mamaliga´ (traditional Romanian replacer for the bread, made with maize flour) or take part in a cheese-making workshop!
Mr. Tisca and his son made all the ornamentations and wooden crafts inside the accommodation in their carpentry studio. Carpentry is an old tradition in the village, and the Tisca family is actively involved in sustaining this skill and uses it to help maintain the traditional architecture of the village. Houses in the mountain villages in Romania are made of wood. There is a long tradition in building and decorating them. Depending on the area, the wood is encarved with various motifs. The marking motif of the Bradul Chalet is the fir, repeated in all the wooden elements of the house. You can even spend a whole day in the carpentry studio, observing Mr. Tisca´s work or taking part and helping him.
